Storm placed on arm around Colleen’s waist and pulled her close. His other hand smoothed back the strands of hair on her face. She was soft and warm, and smelled as good as he remembered.

Their bodies swayed with the strong beat of the music.

Just can’t shake loose these chains and things.” The singer’s soulful voice echoed off the walls.

Colleen swung her hips and dipped low. Her face lifted with the seductive curve of her lips.

She played with him, and at that moment, he didn’t care. He didn’t give thought to the camera man standing in the corner, recording their dance. The music had cast a spell, like a snake charmer’s flute for a cobra. He couldn’t take his gaze off Colleen and the way her body moved with his.

Her hand moved to the back of his neck and fingered the curls of his hair. “Why didn’t I see it sooner?” she whispered. Her other hand rose until it rested on his shoulder and caressed the muscles lying just beneath the thin fabric of his shirt.

“See what?” He swallowed hard.

“You…the man you’d become.”

Storm shivered under her light touch. “I may have grown up, but I can’t forget what you did the night before graduation.”

“I know.” She closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest. “I’ll never forgive myself for what happened at the party. I didn’t know they’d be so cruel. I’m sorry, Storm.”

Memories of the worst night of his life washed over him. Colleen had taken part, exploiting his teenage hormones to lure him to a private spot. Once she’d left, members of the varsity football team took care of the rest. They tied him to the tree and took turns pounding his gangly, teenage body until he passed out.

Was she aware of the true extent of what happened? That he spent all night in the cold and bleeding? The rope cut so tight into his wrists, he’d spent painful hours working to get free. Remembering the pain, he shivered. No use thinking about high school. Now, he was a grown man and a father of a wonderful girl. And he had a competition to win.

The song ended, and so did Storm’s chain of thought.

Colleen hurried toward the bar to take the envelope from the bartender’s hand.

Once he regained his focus, he followed.

Another contestant darted inside.

Darn. His pulse and pace quickened with renewed urgency.  As he exited the bar, Storm ripped open the envelope.

You might be familiar with the never-ending party that is New Orleans, but this state offers another kind of wildlife. Outside the city of Lake Charles, the Gator Bayou Tour Company awaits your arrival. Hours of operation: nine am to five pm. Rent a kayak and paddle through the bayou in search of alligators. Use your digital camera to take pictures of three different alligators. Then head back to the docks to find Cajun Jim. He will provide your next clue.

He sprinted back to his vehicle and drove away, not waiting for Colleen, who couldn’t run at his speed. Putting distance between them was imperative. She’d gotten under his skin—like a tick. A pesky, annoying, dangerous, but breathtakingly beautiful tick.

Excerpt

Ben went to his room and Tanya came to mine,  As soon as we sat on my bed, my phone dinged.

What’s the weather like?

“What does she want?” Tanya asked.  She was staring at her own phone.

“She wants to know the weather.”  I looked up at her.  “How did you know it was Chloe?”

“Nolan doesn’t text you.” Tanya shrugged.  She kept her eyes on her phone.  “Nine out of ten of your texts are Chloe.  You need more friends.”

It’s hot.  We’re in a desert.

What should I wear for our night out?

“She wants to know what to wear for our night out.”

“I’m not even sure what we’re going to do for that.  I’ve asked my assistant to give us three bars and three restaurants.”

“Do they have karaoke?”

“The bars do.”

“Then Chloe will be happy.”

We’re going to do karaoke.  So sparkle.

I’m getting ideas.  I’ll bring feathers.

“I invited Ben,” I said and texted at the same time.

What?????

Tanya looked up.  “Why?”

“I’m setting him up with Chloe.”

I’m setting him up with you, remember.

This is girl time.

“I thought this was just the three of us,” Tanya said.

“It just sort of happened.”  I kept my eyes on my phone.

He could fit in.  You’ll like him.

“How would it just sort of happen?” Tanya asked.

“Talking to you now, it sounds weird.  But it wasn’t at the moment and I’m setting him up with Chloe,” I said.

“Why are you setting him up with Chloe when you like him?”

I’m not sure I’ll like him if he fits in.  I like men who don’t remind me of my girlfriends.

You’re too picky.

“Stop texting and talk to me.”

“I’m married.”  I still didn’t look up.

“We’ve had this conversation before.  You’ve had a huge crush on him since college, and it can’t make you feel good to think that he’s going to hook up with Chloe.”

“He may not,” I said, still staring at my phone.

“I thought that was the purpose of having him meet Chloe.”

I like meat loaf men.

I think that’s the wrong metaphor.

I want a hunk a hung of burning love.

Crap.  Hunk a hunk.  Unless you’re doing a Freudian interp.

“You like him and that’s okay.  Even the perfect marriages need some intrigue.”

“And how would a college crush do that?” I asked.

“A guy thinks you’re cute.  There’s nothing wrong with that,” Tanya said.

“I’m not sure he thinks I’m cute.”

“You’re the only one he gives rides to.”

“I will admit, he likes me as a friend, but I’m a very friendly person.”

“I don’t think this will help your friendship with Chloe.”

I looked up at her, finally.  She looked concerned.  “So I should hook up with Ben?”

“Of course not.  But Chloe isn’t a good solution.”

I liked texting better than talking.  There wasn’t a look of concern coming from my phone.

Talking to Tanya.  Both of you don’t want Ben there.

So uninvite.

That may be tricky.

I believe in you.

I hate you both.

Then this weekend should be a blast.

Excerpt:
“How are you doing?” I rubbed Harris’s arm, knowing the day had to be bittersweet for him. He didn’t desire to take over the store as his dad had originally planned so it almost came as a blessing when Randy was forced to sell due to his debts. Still, Harris had spent the better part of almost a year mentally preparing for the takeover that now wouldn’t happen.
“Okay. I’m not sure what tomorrow will bring, though. I came here to work almost every day for more than a decade. What am I supposed to do with myself?”
As much as I wanted to, I didn’t have an answer to his question. I had a better idea than anyone what it meant to feel lost, and only over the past month and a half had I finally found myself. I thought I ached for a music career again but as I spent more time on stage, backstage, and on the tour bus I realized my life belonged in Sycamore Bay. My cosmetology degree was being put to good use at Lila’s salon, and now with another stylist, Zoe, added to the payroll, business boomed. I made decent money in hourly and tips and my health didn’t suffer because of it. In fact, I couldn’t even recall the last time my endometriosis flared up.
“Give it time, Harris. You’ll figure all of that out.”
“Yeah, maybe.” He touched his hand to my chin and tipped my face so I stared into his chestnut eyes. Wiping a stray brown hair away from my face and tucking it behind my ear, he added, “but we have a wedding to plan. I don’t want to cut corners anywhere. You deserve your dream wedding.”
How did I get so lucky as to be with a man like Harris? “I’m marrying you. That is my dream.” It had been for years. I crushed on him through all of high school and once we shared a kiss I thought that was it. It wasn’t though, and we went our separate ways. We’d found each other again, and I planned never to let him go.
He pressed his lips to mine and for a moment I forgot we were at the store. My knees weakened and my heart rate increased. He did that to me every single time.
“I see you two are still together.”
We turned our heads and my throat dropped into my stomach when Mandy Glab stood in front of us, a half of a smile on her face. After six months in prison, I hadn’t expected her beauty to overwhelm me. Before being sent away on vandalism charges—of Malone Hardware nonetheless—I’d never seen her without makeup, always looking perfect with every outline of her lipstick and stroke of her eyeshadow. Today wasn’t any different. Her hair was longer now, and her skin was its natural tone, not the slightly bronzed look she borrowed from a bottle.
“What are you doing here?” Harris pulled me to him as if not doing so would cause me harm. “Part of your release is that you not step foot in this store—and it’s still Malone Hardware for another few hours—and you aren’t within five hundred yards of my father. Do I need to contact your parole officer?”
Barely out from behind bars and already she violated her parole. Mandy did whatever she wanted. That was a fact the entire community of Sycamore Bay knew.

Excerpt

She must be crazy. While she’d cut someone out of her life for calling her that, it was the only logical explanation Haleigh could come up with as she downloaded a beta copy of XO On Demand onto her phone.
Only the day before she’d been set up on her first blind date ever. Now, here she was, giving online dating a shot.
What a difference a day made.
She’d been completely serious about never considering online dating. She knew people who had tried it—and successfully. Not that she judged, but it seemed like such a direct and confrontational way to meet someone. By putting your profile out there, you were proclaiming to the world that you were on the prowl.
In another five minutes, she’d be one of those people. After she finished the setup and the survey Ian assured her would be fun, she’d have her first string of potential dates. Brought to her through the magic of technology.
All because she couldn’t stand the idea of her classmates judging her.
If she was one of her own students, she’d tell them it didn’t matter. That after high school, no one cared what people thought. And she’d be lying.
The download completed, and the app opened on her screen. She followed Ian’s directions to create her account. His play-by-play wasn’t entirely necessary. The directions were pretty self-explanatory, but he seemed eager to help. It eased her nerves. Some.
“This where it gets interesting.” Ian clicked a button, taking her to the next page. “Instead of having you answer fifty questions about who you are and what you want, we’ve created a quiz of sorts. Would you rather go camping or stay in a five-star hotel? Which breakfast looks most appetizing? What—”
“I’ve got it.” She flashed him a grin to soften her tone, but she needed to concentrate.
There were so many questions. None of them were too complicated or earth-shattering, but she had to choose correctly. Her future lineup of men depended on it.
Question One: Which of these dishes would you order right now?
She selected a basket of chicken strips with fries.
“That’s what I’d pick, too,” Ian said. “What do you use for dipping?”
“Honey mustard.”
“Barbecue.” He shook his head. “I knew there had to be something wrong with you.”
At least his teasing made this a little less nerve-racking. “You guys aren’t going to use these answers and sell my information to restaurants now, are you?”
“Of course not.” But he tapped his chin thoughtfully. “It isn’t a bad idea, though.”
Question Two: Where would you rather spend a Saturday afternoon?
She didn’t even have to consider this one. She picked “Binge-watching TV in my bed.”
“What’s your go-to show?”
“You heard that one last night,” she reminded him. “Doctor Who. But I’ve been known to do a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars marathon from time to time”
“Which episode is your favorite?”
“Five.” That’s what everyone always said. There was probably something about the bad knocking down the good at the end of the Empire Strikes Back that made a person seem deep. After Greg had explained that to her years ago, she’d made it her customary response.
Only when she was being totally honest, she’d admit she liked Return of the Jedi best. She loved those Ewoks.

Today is the cover reveal for Something Just Like This by Tracy Krimmer. This cover reveal is organized by Lola’s Blog Tours.

Something Just Like ThisSomething Just Like This
By Tracy Krimmer
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Age category: Adult
Release Date: February 14, 2018

Blurb:
Love? Second chances? That crap is for romantics, not realists like Juliette. She has a bad attitude about love and an even worse one when it comes to second chances. And she may dress like an elf for a few weeks out of the year, but that doesn’t mean she loves Christmas.

Stability? Purpose? Landon is surfing a pleasant wave of both until he’s fired. Devastating news from his sister certainly doesn’t help. At least he has the holidays to look forward to.

When Landon shows up at the mall and Juliette prevents a disaster, he can’t stop thinking about that sweet elf. Juliette doesn’t believe in the spirit of Christmas, but she can’t help but wonder why Landon was in her line that day. Could Landon deserve one of those second chances she’s so unwilling to give?

You can find Something Just Like This on Goodreads

You can pre-order Something Just Like This on Amazon for only $2.99 through February 15.
It will be available in Kindle Unlimited after release day.

Excerpt Something Just Like This by Tracy Krimmer

“Don’t be a Grinch!”
“Huh?” I lift my gaze and my best friend and co-worker Carly stands in the doorway, the smile so bright on her face it almost blinds me. “What do you mean don’t be a Grinch?”
“Oh, you know,” she says as she makes her way into the room, planting herself in my chair. “Like you are every holiday season.”
“I’m not a Grinch.” Maybe I am. I try my best not to show it. It’s possible I don’t have a convincing poker face. Poker was never my game, anyway.
“You most certainly are. Every Christmas party you sulk at the table drinking gin and tonic and refuse to join in on anything. This year, you are in. You’ll be the life of the party.”
“Over my dead body.”
“Shit, Jules, your stiff body would be a better time than you are alive at these functions.”
She’s right, and I know it. Why is she always right? I want to take offense but it’s no secret I’m not Christmas’s biggest fan. I may be the only elf working at the mall that despises it. The elf job isn’t for me, though. I do it for others. That’s festive, isn’t it? Isn’t Christmas about giving? I do plenty of that.
“Leave me alone. And why are you so bubbly? Did you drink a bottle of bubble bath or something?” I grab the container of pens, staples, and paperclips out of the box and place them on the desk. This is much easier to deal with than the picture of my family with our fake smiles.
“Oh, I don’t know.”
She dots her face with her fingertips, moving them around from one side to the other. Why is she acting so weird? “Wait.” I stop when I see it. “Are you wearing an engagement ring?”
She squeals and pops out of the chair, rushing over to show me. Her hand misses smacking me in the face as she shows off her princess cut ring, sparkles and all. “Pretty.”
“Pretty? Are you kidding me right now, Jules? This ring is gorgeous and fit for the fairest princess in the land.”
“Which is you, I assume.”
“What crawled into your pants this morning? Or should I ask who didn’t? Another bad date, huh?”
I shrug, not in the mood to discuss my date with Romeo. No joke. My cousin Dana claimed she found the perfect guy for me, and I said yes to a blind date. His name was Romy, like Mira Sorvino in that movie Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. I’d only ever heard the name Romy from that movie. It turned out he used Romy as a nickname for Romeo. Yeah. Dana set me up with a Romeo because of course we’d be Romeo and Juliette. Barf. I don’t even spell my name like the Shakespearean character, and the last thing I would ever do is poison myself over a man. Dana had her fun. I did not. She’s never setting me up again.
“Let’s say I got home very early, watched an entire movie, and was asleep by ten.”
“Ouch. That is a bad date.”
