Author: Effie Kammenou

Narrators: Emily Lawrence

Length: 13 hours 21 minutes

Series: The Gift Saga, Book 3

Publisher: Effie Kammenou

Released: Aug. 27, 2018

Genre: Contemporary Romance

The Gift Saga concludes with the next generation coming into the forefront of the story during their tumultuous years between adolescence and adulthood.

Evvie has lived through more tragedy than a young girl should ever endure, having lost both her father and a most beloved grandmother at a young age. Her rebellious ways are her only defense to mask the ever-present pain in her heart. Closing herself off emotionally, Evvie vows to never let anyone into her heart. But will her determination to keep everyone out see her lose the only person who could heal her broken soul?

Over-achieving, focused, talented, determined to succeed. Those are the traits Stella envies in her siblings and cousins. Her insecurities and lack of confidence stunts her ability to realize her own worth. When an older, handsome young man claims her as his own, Stella believes she has finally found who she has been looking for—someone to love her enough to mold her into the best version of herself. But has she fallen in love too quickly for a man she barely knows anything about?

Chasing Petalouthes (Chasing Butterflies) is the coming of age story of two flawed, young women who push their way out from the confines of the cocoons they’d built around themselves and discover how to soar.

Chasing Petalouthes can be read as a standalone novel. To understand the full emotional impact of these characters histories and lives read Evanthia’s Gift & waiting for Aegina.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Effie Kammenou. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Top 10 List

Author Effie Kammenou’s Top Ten Books of 2018
  1. Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton

I’ve read quite a few incredible books this year but, by far, Next Year in Havana was my favorite. This bestseller is a historical and, at the same time, a contemporary fiction. The story drifts back and forth from past to present, shedding light on life in Cuba during Batista’s reign, Castro’s revolution and dictatorship, and the conditions of today.

Next Year in Havana is a love story. Love of country, heritage, tradition, family and romance. This is a story with substance. One where there is much to learn, much to ponder and consider. I found myself thinking about this book for many days after I had finished it.

  1. The Man in The Black Suit by Sylvain Reynard

SR is my favorite contemporary author. I will read anything he writes. Not only is he a master at romance and sensuality, but the literary level of his writing is far superior to most in his genre. This standalone novel carries some weighty moral messages. In between the romance, intrigue, danger and gorgeous locals, I found myself contemplating right from wrong and what I might do if placed in the character’s predicaments.

3 & 4. The Scrying & The Hallowed by Jaci Miller

These are books one and two of a fantasy / paranormal fiction trilogy. The Scrying gave me a taste of what was to come and I loved every second – best friends, a hot new, mysterious man, an awakening of powers. The Hollowed was a tornado of strange realms, revelations, and supernatural creatures. I can’t wait for the last book in the trilogy.

  1. White Horse Slave by Rett Tyler

This is a very unique story by a debut author. At first, i thought, ‘This is nothing but a young woman spewing out foul language.’ But as I read on, I was soon hooked. Rhiannon was sold as a sex slave from the age of four and remained one until she was rescued when she was eight years old. Now, at twenty-three, the repercussions are long lasting and debilitating. This is not a story of what happened to her, but rather how it has affected her life and her inability to live a normal one. A beautiful romance blossoms, if she will only let it fully bloom. Ethan knows her history. He fights for her and tries to pull her from the darkness.

6 & 7. Constellation & Chaos by Jennifer Locklear

These are books one and two in a trilogy. I could not put them down. I was so invested in the characters. Jack was a man, disappointed in his failed marriage. Katherine was a woman who was never able to find love. Not as a child in her family home and not as a woman. These two souls were fated to be together but there were so many obstacles in their path.

8 & 9. TouchStone for Play & TouchStone for Giving – Books one and two in The Story of Us Trilogy.

I’m about to read the third book in the trilogy. This is a sweep you off your feet, fantasy romance with two star-crossed lovers – true soulmates. And the love scenes are smoking hot!

  1. Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover

I had read, Hopeless, a while ago and I really enjoyed this sad, haunting tale. Losing Hope, is the same story, but from the young man’s perspective. It answers quite a few questions and gives insight into what he was feeling through some very dark days.

This Or That? With Author Effie Kammenou
  1. Waffle fries or curly fries? Both!
  2. GIF with a hard g or soft g? I never know. I think soft.
  3. Fantasy or science-fiction? Fantasy
  4. Superman or Batman? Superman. I love Henry Cavill and he will always be my Superman
  5. Text message or call? Text. It’s easier and I can answer when I’m in between other tasks.
  6. Pancakes or waffles? Waffles! I make delicious Liege waffles. If you don’t know what they are or have never tasted them, you must. You can find a recipe on my food blog.
  7. Doctor Who or the Walking Dead? Neither. I have never seen any episodes, but if I was to watch one, I would choose Walking Dead.
  8. TV Shows or movies? I like both! I love a good series, like The Crown, Downton Abbey, or The Affair. But i like my guilty pleasures too, like The Bachelor. I love sappy Hallmark movies, Oscar nominated movies, romantic comedies and psychological thrillers.
  9. Facebook or Twitter? Both. Facebook is great because the interaction is not limited and you can post a lot of pictures. I’ve kept up with many personal friends through it. I’ve also made a lot of new friends, contacts, and have been able to hear from readers. Twitter is quick, easy, and I have made some amazing contacts through it.
  10. Alice in Wonderland or Robinson Crusoe? Alice in Wonderland
  11. Being too warm or too cold? I’ll take the heat any day! I hate being cold.
  12. Netflix or Hulu? I have Netflix. I don’t subscribe to Hulu. I also have Amazon prime TV and Passionflix
  13. Work Hard or Play Hard? Both. I work hard so that I can play hard. I’ve always had a strong work ethic. But i love to have fun too!
  14. Passenger or Driver? Definitely driver.
  15. Amusement Park or Day at the Beach? Amusement park if it’s Disney. I’m not much for the fairs and the other ride parks. I live on an island surrounded by beaches and I rarely go. I prefer my swimming pool. But I do love the port towns, boating and being near the water.
  16. Honesty or Other’s Feelings? You must always consider others feelings. However, if you think something must be said for their own good, there is a delicate way to say it.
  17. Movie at Home or Movie at the Theater? I enjoy both. I love seeing a new movie in the theater. At home, especially in the winter, I like to bundle up on the couch under a blanket with the fireplace ablaze and binge watch my favorite movies.

Author: Lisa Becker

Narrator: Suzanne Barbetta

Length: 8 hours 11 minutes

Publisher: Lisa Willet Becker

Released: May 30, 2018

Genre: Contemporary Romance

clutch: a novel is the laugh-out-loud, chick lit romance chronicling the dating misadventures of Caroline Johnson, a single purse designer who compares her unsuccessful romantic relationships to styles of handbags – the “Hobo” starving artist, the “Diaper Bag” single dad, the “Briefcase” intense businessman, etc. With her best friend, bar owner Mike by her side, the overly-accommodating Caroline drinks a lot of Chardonnay, puts her heart on the line, endures her share of unworthy suitors and finds the courage to discover the “Clutch” or someone she wants to hold onto.

Lisa Becker is a romance writer who spends her time like she spends her money – on books and margaritas. In addition to Clutch: a novel, she is the author of the Click trilogy, a contemporary romance series about online dating and Links, a standalone, second chance romance readers call light, fun, sexy and smart. As Lisa’s grandmother used to say, “For every chair, there’s a tush.” Lisa is now happily married to a wonderful man she met online and lives in Manhattan Beach, California with him and their two daughters. So, if it happened for her, there’s hope for anyone! You can share your love stories with her at www.lisawbecker.com.

She’s also a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, the Audio Publishers Association and the League of Professional Theatre Women. Audiobooks are a way to satisfy her pathological addiction to reading. Now based in NYC, she is also the voice of the Fierce, Funny, Fab Fangirls of the series Geek Actually for Serial Box Publishing.

4 Stars

Who knew there were so many types of purses? What a fun read and interesting way of relating dating to an object. Caroline had an eclectic dating pool, which made for an enjoyable read. The narrator had good inflection of voice changes and made the story flow smoothly.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Lisa Becker. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Q&A with Author Lisa Becker

  • Were there any real-life inspirations behind your writing?
    • When I was writing the Click trilogy, (Click: An Online Love Story, Double Click, and Right Click), I was obsessed with NCIS re-runs and would have the show on in the background as I wrote. There was an episode where a character refers to a man as a “handbag husband,” or something useless you carry on your arm. I started thinking about that, and the idea for Clutch grew from there. I believe that everyone deserves a happily ever after and would like to think there’s a “clutch,” or someone worth holding onto, out there for everyone.
  • If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the primary roles?
    • I think Eloise Mumford, who played Kate in Fifty Shades of Grey, would make an outstanding Caroline. She has the right mixture of warmth, gumption, vulnerability, and beauty to bring this character to life. I still can’t decide who would play Mike, although I know I’d love to sit in on those casting sessions. 😉
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • In the past, when I’ve typed the final “the end” on a manuscript, I celebrate with a box of my favorite chocolates. However, with Clutch, I thought it fitting to buy myself a new purse – a Michael Kors shoulder bag that I use every day.
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • When searching for a narrator, it was important for me to find someone who really understood not only the individuality of each character but the unique dynamic between the two main leads. I needed someone who could make Caroline relatable and showcase her intelligence, ambition, vulnerability and hopefulness in finding true love. And at the same time, the narrator needed to bring to life Mike’s irreverence, sense of humor, loyalty and drive. Early on in my search, I was lucky to find the very talented Suzanne Barbetta who was able to capture all of this effortlessly.
  • Do you have any tips for authors going through the process of turning their books into audiobooks?
    • Spend the time and money necessary to find the right partner who is professional, personable and truly gets the material. There’s a magic that happens when the connection is right, and you’ll reap the benefits from that to more than compensate for your initial investment.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • There are quite a number of a quick-witted exchanges between Caroline and Mike including the use of clever puns and rapid-fire jokes back and forth. I think an audiobook is a great way for those to come across and bring out the humor in the story, as long as you have a talented narrator with comedic timing and an understanding of the dynamics between characters. Again, I feel so lucky to be working with the talented Suzanne Barbetta as she was able to capture the chemistry between these two characters, which is the heart of the story.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • I love the idea of audiobooks and giving people the opportunity to enjoy amazing storytelling in a convenient and accessible way. So, whether you want to read a book in a traditional manner or listen to a story while exercising, making dinner, lounging around or doing a myriad of other things, the important point is that you are enjoying the escapism and the beauty of the written word.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Clutch actually started out as a screenplay that had been optioned by a production company at Sony Studios. The movie didn’t progress past the initial stages, so I turned it into a novel to bring this light and breezy story about love and handbags to the public. It was only after I received so many positive reviews of the story, its characters, humor and heart, did I think to turn it into an audiobook. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to expand the reach of this story that hopefully will inspire people to seek out their own happily ever after.
  • What gets you out of a writing slump? What about a reading slump?
    • Like all writers, I’ve encountered my share of writer’s block. My solution: Chocolate! No joke, I eat chocolate. If I’m stuck on a certain section or not feeling motivated to write, I give myself little chocolate incentives to get past the blockage. Judging by my thighs, I had some serious problems writing this book. 😉 I’m not sure I’ve ever been in a reading slump, though. If anything, I need to find ways to stop reading so much, as it sometimes affects time with my family or work.
  • What’s next for you?
    • Included in Clutch is a preview of my next book, Starfish, a new adult story of unexpected love, the redemptive power of music and hogging the bed. Starfish is expected to be released in spring 2019.

Q&A with Author Meredith Potts

  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • It’s an incredible experience hearing your words read aloud. Writing is such a solitary activity that it feels particularly special listening to a narrator make your characters come alive.
  • Do you believe certain types of writing translate better into audiobook format?
    • I certainly believe that it doesn’t hurt to have a playful, humorous writing style with snappy dialogue. Then again, whodunits probably translate well to any format. After all, who doesn’t love a good mystery?
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I held an open audition. That’s how I’ve found both of my wonderful narrators.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • I used to work at a coffee shop for a number of years, so I used some of my real-life experiences slinging lattes as the inspiration for Daley Buzz, the cafe in my series. People are very particular about how they want their coffee and that is reflected in a number of scenes throughout the series.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • There’s a new murder case in each book of the series, which brings a unique set of new wacky characters and motives into play. As for the writing, I try to take the weekends off. Everyone needs a break now and then.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • The dialogue really stands out more when read aloud, I find. So much depends on the performance of the narrator, which is why I’m so glad that I found two fantastic narrators.
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • It really is hard to go wrong with chocolate.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • I love writing a series because it allows me to explore different parts of a character’s personality and shine the light on various aspects of their life.
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • Write to market. And invest in the marketing of your writing.
  • What’s next for you?
    • There’s a Daley Buzz spinoff on the way. I can’t wait to share the new series with my readers and listeners.

Q&A with Narrator Lainie Pahos

  • How did you wind up narrating audiobooks? Was it always your goal or was it something you stumbled into by chance?
    • I am an actor/singer and wanted to make money on my own time doing what I’m trained to do! It’s a fun gig to do on the side!
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for narrating?
    • I take lots of breaks! I only record for an hour at a time and then I will do push ups or sit ups or take my dog for a walk or something (I’m also a personal trainer so sitting and talking all day is hard for me!) When I come back from that I’m ready to go for another hour!
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • Yea! I listen to Audible a lot! I like to listen in the car or at the gym. I am very busy so it’s hard for me to find time to sit down and read so I multitask!
  • What are your favorite and least favorite parts of narrating an audiobook?
    • I love getting to act and try out different character voices! It’s a great way to use the skills that help me in my career.
    • Sitting for so long!! I need to take breaks and stay active! And it’s hard on the voice too. Lots of tea with honey!
  • How did you decide how each character should sound in this title?
    • I look at the text and get context clues of where they’re from or what they’ve been through and if the text doesn’t say much then I invent a backstory for them!
  • What types of things are harmful to your voice?
    • Shouting and low voices. Many books written by men have a lot of male characters I find it difficult to record for long periods of time when I have to do so many different male voices.
  • If you had the power to time travel, would you use it? If yes, when and where would you go?
    • Oh, I’d absolutely use it!! I think I’d go back to different eras and see some of my favorite singers perform!
  • If you could narrate one book from your youth what would it be and why?
    • The Silverwing series. I just remember loving those little bat books so much!!
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • I’d say that’s incredibly dumb! Some people are auditory learners and they’ll get more out of it if they listen to it. Other people have dyslexia and can’t read very well. Plus some actors can bring books to life in a way someone who finds reading boring can’t themselves. Some people are too busy to set time aside to read so they multitask with audiobooks. Everyone’s situation is different and no one has a right to judge how others take in their entertainment.
  • Bonus question: Any funny anecdotes from inside the recording studio?
    • I have a very large selection of burps recorded should anyone need them for an animated series! And puppy sounds as well. I’m a “take your dog to work” kind of person!

Author: Bella Andre

Narrator: Eva Kaminsky

Series: The New York Sullivans, Book 1

Publisher: Oak Press, LLC

Released: Aug. 9, 2016

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Millions of readers/listeners have fallen in love with the San Francisco and Seattle Sullivans. Now get ready to fall head over heels for the New York Sullivans!

World-renowned artist Drake Sullivan doesn’t paint women. Ever. Not when he knows all too well just how destructive painter/muse relationships can be. But on the day Rosa Bouchard walks onto the cliffs outside his Montauk cottage, Drake is so captivated that he can’t stop himself from bringing her to life on canvas.

Shocked and horrified by the nude photos of her that have just hit the Internet, reality TV star Rosa’s every instinct is to run from her Miami home and hide. After driving all night, she ends up in Montauk, New York, where she doesn’t know a soul and plans to lie low until she can figure out how to deal with the media firestorm – and her own mother, who seems all too happy to sell out Rosa’s happiness for more fame, more fans, and more money. The very last thing Rosa expects is to find, and to fall for, a sinfully sexy man like Drake Sullivan.

Drake has never felt this way about anything he’s painted…and he’s definitely never felt this way about a woman. When they kiss, everything but sweet, breathless desire melts away. But can he convince Rosa to trust – and to love – again after such a devastating betrayal?

Bella Andre is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of “The Sullivans”, “The Morrisons” and “The Maverick Billionaires” series.

Q&A with Author Bella Andre
  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • I have worked with Eva Kaminsky for many years, so as soon as I had the book done and edited, I sent it over to her. And then weeks later, like magic, Eva sent me the finished files for my review. Of course they were perfect, just like always! I can never stop smiling while listening to her narration of my love stories. She truly brings them to life!
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • As soon as I heard Eva Kaminsky, I knew I wanted to work with her. She has narrated more than 35 audiobooks for me and I hope to continue to work with her for many years to come!
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • Eva is such a pro that she was able to run with my books without any advice or suggestions from me. It’s one of the many reasons I love working with her – she always does an amazing job, no matter the genre or series.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • I’m always inspired by the world around me. For the New York Sullivans, I am able to pull from not only my extensive travels throughout New York state, but also my summers living in a log cabin in the Adirondack mountains with my family. I love writing about my favorite places!
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • I absolutely love to travel, walk, cook and spend time with my friends and family. Shared laughter, fun experiences and seeing new things all help fuel me so that when I open my laptop or notebook to work on a book, I’m ready and raring to go with lots of idea and inspiration.
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • I went for a swim, made and ate a great dinner, then woke up the next morning and started the next book!
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • I’m a big believer in writing books in a series, because as a reader, I absolutely love to follow characters and families through their lives. I write what I love to read!
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • YES! One of my very first books – TAKE ME – came to me, almost in its entirety, in a dream.
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • Read a ton and write a ton. And hold focus, even when the noise of the world around you might feel like it’s too loud to concentrate. Writing and reading will always center you and fulfill you.
  • What’s next for you?
    • I am working on the fourth New York Sullivan book – Harry Sullivan’s love story! I am so excited about this book. I’m pretty sure we’ve all been waiting to see who the sexy academic falls in love with. ☺

In the year 1956, Anastacia Fotopoulos finds herself pregnant and betrayed, fleeing from a bad marriage. With the love and support of her dear friends Stavros and Soula Papadakis, Ana is able to face the challenges of single motherhood. Left with emotional wounds, she resists her growing affection for Alexandros Giannakos, an old acquaintance. The story continues in the 1970’s as Dean and Demi Papadakis, and Sophia Giannakos attempt to negotiate between two cultures. Now Greek-American teenagers, Sophia and Dean, who have shared a special connection since childhood, become lovers. Sophia is shattered when Dean rebels against the pressure his father places on him to uphold his Greek heritage and hides his feelings for her. When he pulls away from his family, culture and ultimately his love for her, Sophia is left with no choice but to find a life different from the one she’d hoped for.

4.5 Stars

This book offers a true family saga that covers multiple generations. The narrator was able to add to the story and provide different personalities for all the characters. Her voice was smooth and warm, which fit the story perfectly. I enjoyed the intermingling of Greek culture with the story, as well as the inclusion of recipes. Even though this book was historical in context, I was able to relate to the feelings of the characters and enjoy the story. A pleasurable read for a long holiday weekend.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Effie Kammenou. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Sophia

Hello, let me indroduce myself. My name is Sophia Giannakos. I’ve live on Long Island, NY all my life, although I’ve spent most of my summers in Greece where my family owns homes they’ve inherited on a couple of Greek islands. I’m petite and slim, the perfect size for the ballerina I’ve trained to become my entire life. I have what some would call the typical coloring for a person with Greek blood – olive complexion, brown eyes and long dark hair. My best friend, Demi, has proved this stereotype to be false, though, with her honey blonde hair and green eyes. Speaking of Demi, I have been in love with her brother my entire life. I thought he’d never return my feelings, but when he did, my entire world centered around his love for me and mine for him. Until, that is, he broke my heart. Now, with Dino, that’s his name, by the way, out of my life, all I have left is the only other thing that fills my soul – dance. I’ve thrown my full effort into my career, traveling all over the world with my ballet company. Touring keeps me away from home, not that I don’t want to be around my family. I do! I love them so much. I have the most incredible parents who are so in love that it hurts to watch them sometimes, knowing that I will never have that chance again. Did I mention that Dino lives next door? And that his family and mine are lifelong friends? That is why I have to stay away. Seeing him is too painful for me. I don’t think I’ll ever be over him. Thank heavens for my best girlfriends. We’ve been inseparable since our early school days and, although we’re all busy carving out our own careers, we always make time for each other, especially when one of us is having a crisis. Next time maybe Demi, Donna, Mindy and Amy can join us. I’d love for you to meet them. Well, it was nice chatting, but it’s time for me to tie up my pointe shoes and warm up for my performance tonight.

Dean

Hey! I’m Dean. Actually, my name is Konstantinos, but I use Dean, much to the regret of my father who insists on calling me Kostas. What’s the big deal, you ask? How would you like to go through life with a name like Konstantinos Papadakis? So, I’m sure that you guessed by my name that I’m Greek, and boy, there isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not reminded of that fact. My father pushes it all on me like it should be the only thing that matters – Greek heritage, language, religion, and girls. Would you believe he was giving me constant lectures of the importance of marrying a Greek since I was around the age of fourteen? He was like a friggin’ broken record and, man, what teenage boy wants to think about who he’s going to marry? All I cared about was soccer, playing lead guitar with my band and dating as many girls as I could get away with. Yeah, I was a good looking little shit in high school and I knew it. I still am. How do I know? Because women are always throwing themselves at me. If they want tall, dark and handsome, I pretty much fit the bill, although my hair is more of a rich medium brown with a hint of golden highlights. Truth be told, I don’t give a damn about all those girls. There’s only one girl for me, Sophia, the girl I’d known my entire life and had been my closest friend and confidant. But I screwed things up with her and now, there’s no turning back. She won’t talk to me, look at me or even be in the same room as me if she can help it. Did I mention that she lives next door and her parents and mine are the best of friends? And worse yet, she’s Greek. Why is this a bad thing, you ask? Because my parents watch us as though they are waiting for a big announcement. No way in hell is my father picking out a girlfriend for me. But Sophia is my girl. I just don’t want Dad to know. There was no denying it anymore and I finally had to make her mine. We agreed to keep our love a secret for a while. And well, after the best year of my life, it ended, leaving me to wonder if she was as broken and as shattered as I was? There’s nothing left for me now other than to climb the corporate ladder and throw myself into my work.

Anastacia

Hello, my name is Anastacia Fotopoulos. For a brief time my last name was Pappas, until I caught my husband in bed with another woman one afternoon. I was so young and naive when I fell for Jimmy. I had never been allowed to date when I lived in Athens with my parents but when I moved to the States to attend NYU, I met Jimmy and we were married. I had little experience with men, none actually, and I didn’t realize he was the type of man to betray me this way. Soon after we’d separated, I discovered that I was pregnant with his child. Single motherhood wasn’t how I’d imagined my life, but I was going to give Sophia all the love in the world. She became my main priority and I had no intention of getting distracted by the men my friend Soula and Stavros tried to set me up with, that is, until I met Alexandros. I fought my attraction to him, though. How could I trust my judgment, or another man for that matter? But in time, Alexandros won me over and convinced me to take a chance on him. And how could I resist? He was not only handsome, but also the kindest and most patient man I’d ever met. Most important for me was that he loved Sophia and she adored him. Oh, did I mention that I have a sister? Probably not, because I never speak of her. She is a mean and hurtful person and I want nothing to do with her. She hates me and has since we were children. People say they can tell we are sisters, but then they also add that, although our olive complexion, dark hair and facial features are similar, we have a completely different look about us. I’ve been told that I have the grace and elegance of Audrey Hepburn. Isn’t that such a sweet thing for people to say? Irini, my sister, on the other hand has been compared to a cheap starlet. Unfortunately, that’s an insult to the poor starlets. It doesn’t matter. She’s out of my life and I have Sophia, Alexandros, my wonderful friends and my loving parents.

What makes a story a great read is one that you can feel the realness in and this story provides that. I listened to this story in one sitting because I didn’t want to stop listening. The narrator brought the story to life and added to the sweet romance the story offered. The characters were easily distinguished and the recording was clear.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Aubrey Wynne. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Review

4 Stars

In my opinion, the narration of this book was better than the first book. The story had me intrigued, especially with the suspense of the stalker and the growing love story between Allison and Ian. The narrator provided adequate character distinction and the narration flowed smoothly. The sound quality was smooth and the silences between the chapters seemed shorter in this book. Even though the suspense was building in the story, the narrator maintained the same speed. A great listen for a long drive because you won’t want to stop listening!
