The Good Stranger

(Kate Bradley Mystery #3)

by Dete Meserve

From the bestselling author of Good Sam—now a Netflix feature film—comes another Kate Bradley story about the nature of generosity and finding unexpected connections with strangers.

TV reporter Kate Bradley arrives in Manhattan ready to take on a challenging new position as a national news correspondent. When a massive power outage plunges New York City into darkness, the disaster she expected to cover takes an unexpected turn. Someone is leaving thousands of mysterious gifts throughout the city, and the only clue to the giver’s identity is the occasional note from “A Stranger.”

Together with handsome TV series host Scott Jameson, Kate must make sense of these random generous acts, which quickly escalate in scale and capture the attention of viewers across the country. In early-morning stakeouts and late-night surveillance, they crisscross the city hunting down leads, but the elusive Stranger is always one step ahead.

Menacing letters and videos addressed to Kate threaten to derail the investigation, but she’s determined to uncover the identity of the benefactor. The closer Kate gets to the truth, the more clearly she sees that even the smallest act of generosity can bring about powerful change. And it just may take her own selfless act of kindness to solve the feel-good mystery of the year.

Wow-sers! This was a fantastic book. I loved every part of it. The writing flowed so smoothly and the story had me from the beginning. A great weekend read!

The Dinner in the Sky (Friendships Online Book 3)

by Anne John-Ligali

After a shocking confrontation with an unexpected encounter, Constance tries to piece her life back together and is on a mission to finally move on.

The thought of having her friends nearby is a comfort as they take time out of their busy online lives and regularly meet up at their favourite place, A Cupful of Dreams Café. Everyone seems happy enough until cracks begin to show and all is not as good as it seems. Constance tries desperately to keep positive as there’s so much to look forward to: shopping for posh frocks, dinner at The Shard and a movie premiere.

As things start to look rosy, a few odd tweets begin to pop up from nowhere. At first, they seem innocent, but as the weeks go by and premier night draws near, not only do the tweets increase but they become more obnoxious.

By the time Constance and her chums arrive on the red carpet, she’s determined to work out who the troll could be and to keep them from spoiling her evening. However, as Constance soon learns, the troll wants to destroy far more than that!

Breathtaking views of London.

Posh frocks and Paparazzi

But there’s definitely trouble in the air …

Having read the first 2 books in this series, I was excited to read this book! The story picked up where the last one left off so I was excited to see how Constance handled things with Maxwell. We also got to know the group of online friends more. I’ve really enjoyed this series! Fun read that flows smoothly!

What a fantastic read! Ivy was a complicated character, insomuch that you could feel something about her made her who she was. I enjoyed the family legacy and history aspect of the story as my family has dealt with similar matters. The story was a quick read that flowed beautifully over the pages.

Thank you to the author for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

From the bestselling author of Sweet Tea Tuesdays comes a story of true love that spans decades.

Lillian Alexander’s father is dying of cancer. When he rambles on in a morphine-delirium, Lillian can’t ignore the feeling he’s trying to tell her something. At his funeral days later, she encounters ghosts from her past who stir long-suppressed memories from the day her mother died twenty-seven years ago. Why, if her mother’s death was an accident, does Lillian harbor guilt, as though she were somehow to blame?

When Lillian and her twin sister, Layla, learn the Stoney family fortune is gone, Lillian fights to save her ancestral home on Charleston’s prestigious East Battery. Desperate to resolve her money problems and get answers to her questions about the past, she tears her father’s study apart in search of clues. She discovers a thumb drive in a hollowed-out hardback copy of For Whom the Bell Tolls. The thumb drive, marked For Lillian in his handwriting, contains her father’s memoir. Secluded in the family’s cottage on Wadmalaw Island, she immerses herself in her father’s account of his stormy relationship with her mother. What she learns sets her on a journey of self-discovery.

Tangled in Ivy is a tale of tortured souls and southern family dysfunction.

Review5 Stars

What a thoughtful look into the married life and how things can change over the years. As one may be the rainmaker in the beginning, things can change with roles reversed. It was interesting to read the different views of the marriage throughout the book, as well as the alternating time frames. As a reader, you don’t want to see a marriage unravel but you are able to appreciate what the couple may be going through. A heart-provoking read for your next long weekend.

Something Old

Emilie Carter never wants to return to Danvers, Massachusetts, but when her childhood home needs to be sorted for sale, she’s forced to tie up loose ends. Her hopes to abandon all ties to the place fails when she’s roped into being a bridesmaid for her ex-best friend and Emilie’s high school sweetheart. No big deal, right?

Dean Wright has worked hard to make a name for himself and continue his father’s fishing business. After years of feeling empty, enter long-time crush, Emilie. When she needs a date for a wedding to show her ex she’s moved on, he takes it a step further by proposing a fake engagement. Her presence stirs up old feelings, and Dean is determined not to let her go this time.

Just the type of book I really enjoy – clean romance with a happy ending! I enjoy reading about the rekindling of high school friends/relationships. This book flowed easily between the alternating viewpoint in the chapters. I really enjoyed the story of Emilie and Dean! I hope the best for Ava and thankful that Dean found someone he deserves (not just interested in him for his money). Can’t wait to see what happens next!

#5Stars #Review – THE WAKE UP by Catherine Ryan Hyde

The Wake Up

The Wake Up

From New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde comes a hauntingly emotional novel of how one man’s life changes forever when he rediscovers his ability to feel the pain of others.

Something has been asleep in forty-year-old cattle rancher Aiden Delacorte for a long time. It all comes back in a rush during a hunting trip, when he’s suddenly attuned to the animals around him, feeling their pain and fear as if it were his own. But the newfound sensitivity of Aiden’s “wake up” has its price. He can no longer sleepwalk through life, holding everyone at arm’s length. As he struggles to cope with a trait he’s buried since childhood, Aiden falls in love with Gwen, a single mother whose young son bears a burden of his own.

Sullen and broken from his experiences with an abusive father, Milo has turned to acting out in violent and rebellious ways. Aiden can feel the boy’s pain, as well as that of his victims. Now he and Milo must sift through their pasts to find empathy with the innocent as well as the guilty, to come to terms with their deepest fears, and to finally discover the compassionate heart of a family.

Review5 Stars

What an interesting topic for a story – the ability to feel the feelings of others. I really enjoyed the strangers to friends theme – including Aiden being supportive of the single mother, not trying to control Milo. A pleasant read for your next weekend getaway to the cabin!

Review5 Stars

This book has everything that I look for – romance, opposites attract, relatability, and a flowing storyline. I could so relate to Matilda with the importance of organization. As a natural planner, I could feel the dilemma that Matilda was facing when her boyfriend altered their plans and then having to go back to your small town – been there, done that! Definitely another a fun and quirky romantic comedy from Cat Lavoie! Grab this book and head to the beach for an afternoon of delightful reading! Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Wrapped Up in You

(Heartbreaker Bay #8)

It’s love. Trust me.

After a lifetime on the move, Ivy Snow is an expert in all things temporary—schools, friends, and way too many Mr. Wrongs. Now that she owns a successful taco truck in San Francisco and an apartment to call home, Ivy’s reinvented life is on solid ground. And she’s guarded against anything that can rock it. Like the realities of a past she’s worked hard to cover up. And especially Kel O’Donnell. Too hot not to set off alarms, he screams temporary. If only his whispers weren’t so delightfully naughty and irresistible.

Kel, an Idaho sheriff and ranch owner, is on vacay, but Ivy’s a spicy reason to give his short-terms plans a second thought. Best of all, she’s a tonic for his untrusting heart, burned once and still in repair. But when Ivy’s past intrudes on a perfect romance, Kel fears that everything she’s told him has been a perfect lie. Now, if only Ivy’s willing to share, Kel will fight for a true love story.

I am loving everything about this series – the characters, the setting, the stories! The Sirens add some excitement to this series. This story was very intriguing with the twist of the unknown guest, who began asking questions about the past. The writing is smooth so the story flows through the pages. A fantastic read for your next beach vacation.
